Bomb threats targets Stefanik’s home

New York State Police responded to the residence of U.S. Representative Elise Stefanik in the town of Saratoga for a bomb threat. State Police members and K9 units trained in explosives detection swept the home and did not locate any explosive devices.

Rep. Elise Stefanik’s home in Saratoga County was the target of a bomb threat.

The threat was made Wednesday morning, her office said.

Stefanik, a Republican, was on her way home from Washington for Thanksgiving at the time. Her husband and 3-year-old son were with her.

“We are incredibly appreciative of the extraordinary dedication of law enforcement officers who keep our communities safe 24/7,” her office said in a statement. “We want to share our best wishes to the Upstate NY community for a happy and safe Thanksgiving. We are especially grateful to our law enforcement officers and military families who are on duty over the holiday season.”

State Police, U.S. Capitol Police and county law enforcement responded to the scene and are investigating.

Stefanik is Trump’s nominee for United States United Nations ambassador.

This comes on the same day former Rep. Lee Zeldin, also a Republican, reported a bomb threat at his home. The threat had a pro-Palestinian themed message, he said. Zeldin is Trump’s nominee for Environmental Protection Agency.

It’s unclear if the two threats are related.

State Police and K-9 units trained in explosives detection swept the home and did not find anything.

The FBI is handling the investigation.

President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team says several of his cabinet picks have been targets of “swatting” hoaxes.
