Rensselaer County held an opening ceremony Monday for its new county senior center.

The senior center is located at 6 Ridge Road in Rensselaer, in a plaza that was once a Kmart, and now houses state offices.

It is now the third county senior center opened in the last year and a half as part of a plan by County Executive Steve McLaughlin to improve senior services.

Rensselaer County opened a new senior center in downtown Troy back in spring of 2023.
The county then opened another new senior center in Hoosick Falls this past summer.

The county now says it’s turning its attention to improvements and expansions on the Edward Swartz Center in Schodack, which opened 25 years ago.
