Carm Basile moved from Springfield, MA to Albany in 1981 to take a job with the Capital District Transportation Authority as a transportation planner. He made some lateral moves within the company, learning different aspects of the operation, on his way up to Chief Executive Officer in 2009. Now, after forty-three years with CDTA, Basile is retiring at the of this year. The company has seen a lot of growth in his time as CEO. The fleet includes 300 buses, 750 employees and was at an all-time high in ridership with 16.5 million rides in 2023.
