Hochul issues proclamation to help raise awareness of human trafficking

January will now be recognized as Human Trafficking Awareness Month in New York state.

Gov. Kathy Hochul issued a proclamation on Friday to make it official.

Human trafficking is the use of force, fraud or coercion to make someone engage in labor or commercial sex.

The Task Force on Human Trafficking will share information on social media throughout the month to raise awareness, and offer critical services available to support survivors.

Jan. 11 is recognized annually as Human Trafficking Awareness Day.
