Alleged stalker’s history leaves Albany woman feeling ‘sick’
An Albany woman is speaking out about concerns over her alleged stalker, who’s been arrested before.
Angel Anes said she is being stalked by a man named Steven Herbst.
Herbst was also arrested over the summer, accused of hiding a badly decomposed body at his home in Albany.
Anes said when she saw who was arrested, she felt sick to her stomach.
“I just wanted to document that he’s shown up at my work, talking about people had guns. Just very frightening, come to my home, trying to get into the apartment,” she said. “He assumed that we had a relationship in his mind, but I assured him that we didn’t and no I don’t want that. I don’t miss that. Stay away from me.”
The order of protection shows a charge of stalking.
Albany Police confirm Herbst was arrested on March 3 in connection with an original charge of stalking. However, Herbst has been arrested before.
The July arrest came after badly decomposed human remains were found at his apartment building on Sheridan Avenue in Albany.
The person was eventually identified as Tabitha King, 42, who had been reported missing. An autopsy showed no signs of foul play.
Herbst was charged with concealment of a human corpse.
Anes said the crime made her “sick to my stomach”
“I felt sorry for Tabitha, if I’m allowed to say her name. I felt very sorry for her, may she rest in peace,” Anes said.
She says she wished she had said something earlier.
“It’s more important that if there’s a next victim; if there’s a next Miss King out there; if there’s a next vulnerable person, it’s very important to share the story so we can keep each other safe,” Anes said.
Anes feels a little safer with her order of protection, and the communication from the Albany County District Attorney’s office and the probation officer involved.
She’s sharing her story to try to protect others, she said.
