The city of Albany is celebrating what the mayor calls historic fair housing legislation.

Mayor Kathy Sheehan signed it into law Friday morning.

She says it creates the first "good cause" eviction law in the state.

The legislation gives the city the power to step into the shoes of a property owner to make building repairs.

They can also revoke a residential occupancy permit if an owner seriously neglects their property.
