Governor Kathy Hochul says the state is committing an additional $2 million in state funding to help Afghan refugees settle in New York state.

The announcement came on the same day the White House coordinator of this operation visits Albany.

Jack Markell, former governor of Delaware now with the Biden administration, says he’s encouraged by what he’s seeing in Albany.
Two-hundred people who fled Afghanistan as the Taliban was taking over now call Albany home. Another 250 are set to arrive soon.

The additional state money will help with medical care, mental health treatment, language and job skills and housing.
