The Baby Animals Festival is back in Pittsfield, and it’s now celebrating its 20th anniversary.

Hancock Shaker Village’s festival opened Saturday for the first time this season.

The public is welcome to meet the farm’s newest babies: lambs, piglets, calves, chicks and kids. They also offer education on areas like blacksmithing and woodworking.

Staff members at the farm say they’re happy to let families get up close and personal with the livestock.

“It’s really fulfilling after being closed all winter, and taking care of all these animals and watching them all be born is really exciting, to see what we’ve been doing all winter and to see how happy and healthy the animals are. It’s very exciting,” said Christine McCue and Bill Mangiardi.

On weekends, they offer face painting and pony rides.

The festival is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. until May 8.
