More than six-million dogs enter shelters in the U.S. every year.

Kathy Hynes of Adams in Berkshire County is devoting time to make sure rescued animals are loved and find good homes.

Hynes grew up around all kinds of animals, including dogs, cats and bunnies. However, it wasn’t until 1999 that she began saving abused and neglected animals.

Living in North Carolina and working as an Air Force flight nurse, she began noticing the disturbing number of animals being abused and became a rescuer of animals – even working on an animal rights bill.

Her company is called Got Spots Etc. and today, she still rescues animals in North Carolina and finds them good homes all over, but not until prospective owners go through a rigorous adoption process.

Learn more about what’s involved in the intense process by watching the video of Elaine Houston’s story.
