Birth rate up for first time in seven years

Nearly 3.7 million babies were born in the United States in 2021. That’s about 46,000 more than 2020.

The increase was the first time in seven years the U.S. birth rate increased.

Health experts say one theory for the increase could be Americans delayed having babies during the first year of the pandemic due to public health and economic uncertainty.
