Capital Region seeing effects of nationwide lifeguard shortage

The nationwide shortage of lifeguards is also having an impact here in the Capital Region.

An aquatics director at the Albany JCC tells NewsChannel 13 they are dealing with a major shortage of lifeguards. Part of the problem is a lack of trained instructors.

New York State Parks and Recreation says they have adequate lifeguard staffing to open all swimming facilities, but they’re always looking for more.

So what does it take to become a lifeguard? Enroll in a lifeguard training program. You’ll need to complete the pre-test to move on to your training.
You’ll also need to earn your CPR, first aid and AED certification.
