An annual Thanksgiving tradition is giving back in a big way by delivering meals to families across the Capital Region.
Mike Hamel owns a local paving and contracting company. He teamed up with the Greenbush YMCA in 2016 to start the Y’s Caring Community Basket Brigade. They started with a goal of feeding 50 families. This year Hamel says they are expecting to feed almost 1000 families for Thanksgiving across the capital region.
“What makes me feel really good is that there is kids involved, there’s elder people involved and there is just so many ways to donate, whether it be your time, your resources, your money…" said Hamel. “It’s easily the best thing I get to do every year."
Hamel says they work with about 300 volunteers at several YMCA locations across the Capital Region. Today the brigade delivered baskets filled with turkeys and all the fixings for this year’s thanksgiving dinner.
