ALBANY – The city of Albany kicked off its Cash for Coats drive on Monday.

The program is a collaboration between Lodge’s Department Store, the Palace Theatre, United Way, Burke Companies, and the Albany City School District.

They collect money to buy new winter clothing for school children.

Albany Superintendent Kaweeda Adams says the winter coats and mittens help children in many ways.

"As we move through this pandemic, we know that the basic needs of our students must be met so that they can feel safe and secure in coming to school, and this is a major part of the social and emotional well-being that we look to develop and really move forward with our students," said Adams.

The collection runs through Nov. 5. You can go to Albany City Hall or Lodge’s Department Store to donate.
