The Coast Guard announced changes Friday to its standards for women’s hair.

Women in the Coast Guard can now wear their hair in a braid or ponytail.

Rear Admiral Joan Nunan says the new rules will make it easier for women and reduce headaches and hair breakage which comes from having your hair in a constant bun.

Exceptions will be made for women who work with machinery and hazardous chemicals.

The Army made similar changes to hairstyles for women earlier this year.
