The Colonie Town Board wants longer terms for town supervisor and town clerk.

The board voted Thursday night to extend the terms from two years to four years.

If the public approves, the change would start in January of 2023.

Outgoing Supervisor Paula Mahan says it’s a neutral time to make the move, because incoming supervisor Peter Crummey would still have to run again if he wants to serve more than two years.

Voters in Colonie will decide on this next November.
