Community job fair brings dozens of employers to Crossgates

GUILDERLAND – Roughly 30 local businesses or service organizations had tables set up inside Crossgates Mall Wednesday, waiting to talk to people about a job.

New York State Police were there, along with banking, insurance, or retail – about 30 businesses in all.

About half of the businesses are in Crossgates Mall. The others are scattered throughout the community.

The U.S. labor market is going through extraordinary times right now. There is rapid job growth and severe labor shortages. The pandemic has created an epic shift in working from home.

"There can be remote work out there, but for the most part, a lot of the positions that are open are going to be in-person, especially in the retail and hospitality industry," said Danielle Walsh with the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce. "As long as an employer is safe and has best practices in place, then it’s relatively safe to get out there and go back into the office."
