Cuomo signs legislation blocking telemarketing robotexts

Gov. Cuomo signed new legislation Tuesday protecting New Yorkers from receiving text messages from telemarketers.

Under state law, New Yorkers already were protected against unwanted robocalls. A loophole in previous legislation did not include text messages as a form of telemarketing.

This allowed for telemarketers to take advantage of new methods of communication.

With this new legislation to define text messages as another form of telemarketing, New Yorkers will now have additional protection against unwanted telemarketing schemes.
