WATERVLIET – Homes damaged by a large fire in Watervliet on June 28 won’t be demolished until after the holiday weekend.

The city engineer checked out the buildings and ruled they have to be torn down.

Investigators say the fire was started by a careless smoker.

Nineteen people were left homeless.

There’s a fundraiser for them this Friday, July 2, at the Arsenal City Tavern In Watervliet. Admission is $15.

There will be food and drinks, live music, and a 50-50 raffle.
