The 8th annual Deanna Rivers 518 Memorial Softball Tournament returned to the field for the first time in more than two years because of the pandemic on Sunday. Dozens of senior softball players from Section 2 laced up their cleats one more time to compete for the title of champion. Seniors from 2020 and 2021 were also included in the tournament. The tournament is held in memory of Rivers, a Shenendehowa student-athlete who was killed by a drunk and distracted driver in an accident on the Northway in 2012. NewsChannel 13’s Chris Onorato and Ashley Miller were emcees for the event and honorary coaches for Team Yellow. The Deanna Rivers Foundation also donated a total of $10,000 to various community organizations as a way to help promote organizations and values that Deanna stood for in her life.
