New York state drivers are being urged to stay alert. The Department of Motor Vehicles and Department of Environmental Conservation say deer and moose are more active in the fall and more likely to walk into roadways.

The months of October, November, and December are breeding season. So the animals are out more.

According to the University at Albany’s Institute for Traffic Safety Management, 43% of the crashes in 2020 between deer and vehicles occurred during this three-month span.
