If you’re looking for a career and want to live around here, the nursing, software-IT and engineering fields top the Capital Region’s list of STEM and health-related occupations with the most favorable long-term growth outlooks.

That’s according to a Center for Economic Growth analysis of new long-term employment estimates from the New York State Department of Labor.

Between 2018 and 2028, the Department of Labor projects 158 occupations in the eight-county Capital Region to have "very favorable" employment outlooks – and a third of them are in STEM and health-related fields.

The occupations with the most projected employment growth are registered nurses, home health aides and nursing assistants, which together are expected to add nearly 7,000 jobs by 2028.

To ensure the Capital Region’s talent pipeline has the capacity to meet this long-term demand, the Center for Economic Growth is leading a regional application for the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s Good Jobs Challenge.
