Families who lost loved ones in tragedies want NY to modernize wrongful death laws

There were calls Tuesday morning to update New York state’s wrongful death laws.

Families who lost loved ones in tragedies such as the Schoharie limo crash joined lawmakers to call for legislation that would modernize the state’s laws. Some people present lost loved ones in other car crashes and the Bronx fire in January.

They say the act would allow courts to consider emotional loss and grief when compensating close family members.

The Schoharie limo crash in 2018 killed 20 people.
