The FDA has a new warning about certain prenatal tests.

The tests are known as genetic non-invasive prenatal screening tests. The FDA is warning patients about the risks of false results associated with them and noting they are not approved by the FDA.

"When I do a screening test, I emphasize to the patient that there could be results that actually indicate the opposite of what is true, because a screening test is just designed to provide an initial risk or an initial picture but not a final picture," said Dr. Lakedra Pam, an OBGYN.

The FDA says it’s even aware of reports where women have made decisions to end pregnancies without having confirmatory testing being done.
