Former GE engineer convicted of conspiracy to commit economic espionage

After a four-week trial, and more than a week of jury deliberations, a former GE engineer is convicted of conspiracy to commit economic espionage.

Xiaoqing Zheng of Niskayuna was acquitted of two counts of economic espionage and two counts of trade secret theft.

The jury could not reach a verdict on the remaining charges against him.

Zheng will be sentenced on August 2.

He faces up to 15 years in prison, and a fine of up to $5 million.
