COLONIE – Students have plenty of things to worry about, and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand believes hunger shouldn’t be one of them.

While the USDA is currently providing free school meals, Gillibrand believes there needs to be a more permanent solution.

She’s been pushing for legislation that would provide free breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack for all students, regardless of their economic background.

Gillibrand says it would help more than 23,000 students in Albany County alone.

She was at the South Colonie Central School District on Monday, where more than 30% of students currently receive free or reduced lunch.
