Glens Falls working to increase awareness of arts district

GLENS FALLS – The city of Glens Falls wants you to start thinking of them when you think of the arts.

The city has a dynamic arts community all within a short walk, and they’re trying to make it a not-so-hidden gem.

It might be the most vibrant arts community you don’t think of.

Many of the organizations in the city, from the Hyde Collection with its world renowned pieces, to the Wood Theater with its Broadway-level shows, are getting together to package the arts into a district.

Ten locations, 14 organizations, all within a short walk within The Arts District of Glens Falls.

To make their love for the arts more obvious, they’re decorating electrical boxes, adding murals and Adirondack chairs to the main drag, and bike racks are coming soon. It’s all part of a collaboration that tells the world what many locals already know.

"Glens Falls is an arts city. Glens Falls supports the arts, loves the arts, but you don’t necessarily know that when you just drive in, and we want it to be insanely obvious to anybody, like you just can’t walk down the street without knowing that Glens Falls loves art," said Kate Austin-Avon, with the Glens Falls Arts District.

There are sponsorship opportunities of the public art going on display.
