The weather this week is making it easier for a lot of us to spend time outside.

That’s the whole idea behind the creation of what is now a day recognized and celebrated internationally. In a story you’re seeing Only on 13, it all started when a Julie St. Louis from Glenville shared some pictures and posts on social media.

St. Louis is a novice on the trails by many hikers’ standards, but in fewer than two years, the Siena grad has become someone others look to for unique ways to enjoy the outdoors.

She started an Instagram called Summit Searcher in December 2020 to save some of her photos. She was surprised when it caught on, and she became part of the virtual hiking community.

That inspired St. Louis to find even another way to connect people – "Summit Beer Day."

It’s simple: Go for a hike, do something outdoors, then enjoy your favorite beer and post a pic on Instagram. The idea is catching on internationally.

Now she’s even partnered with Northway Brewing in Queensbury to brew a beer for adventures anytime of year.
