New York State has its highest number of new COVID-19 cases in a single day since the start of the pandemic.

As of Saturday, Governor Hochul says almost 22,000 new infections have been reported. She stopped at the vaccination center in Crossgates Mall to address the mask mandate as well as announce that more vaccines and booster shots are on the way.

While some counties are not enforcing the new mask mandate, Governor Hochul says she hopes, with the rising COVID-19 cases, minds will change.

“Wearing a mask is about as simple of a request you can ask for. This is such a minor intrusion,” said Governor Hochul. “A major intrusion is saying we’ve shut down your businesses, you cannot go shopping for Christmas, you cannot take your family out to dinner, you cannot go bowling, you cannot get a haircut…that’s an intrusion. We already went through that, this is not 2020."

The Governor also announced that 40 new vaccine pop-up sites will go up across the state to help target counties with low vaccination rates.
