Hazmat concern at Collar City Nursing & Rehabilitation

The Pleasantdale Fire Department was called to the Collar City Nursing and Rehabilitation facility located at 100 New Turnpike Road in Troy for a hazardous material call around 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

Upon arrival the fire department learned that the facility staff had mixed some chemicals causing the hazardous situation. The Troy City Hazardous Material team was called in to assist and were able to quickly neutralize the mixed chemicals.

One staff member was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Residents and patients at the facility in the affected section were evacuated to another area of the rehab center for their safety. There are no other reported injuries at this time.

Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Valyou says the scene was under control and turned back over to the facility by 10:15 a.m.
