Gov. Hochul says a person who visited New York City recently tested positive for the COVID omicron variant. That person lives in Minnesota.

Hochul says that person spent time at the Javits Center in New York City. They attended the anime convention last month.

According to Hochul, that individual is vaccinated and had mild symptoms. They have also fully recovered.

Hochul says she doesn’t want people to panic. She says the state is better prepared to handle COVID than it was in March 2020.

She is encouraging people to get vaccinated and to get the booster shot.

"I want New Yorkers to have the confidence to know that we are ready to deal with this. So continue wearing your masks. We encourage everyone to wear their masks when they’re out. Get those shots. Get your children vaccinated and we’re not defenseless. We are not defenseless against this variant," said Hochul.

She is also encouraging people who visited the Javits Center from Nov. 18 to Nov. 22 to get tested.

Hochul says there are no confirmed omicron cases in the state at the moment.
