The Department of Transportation is issuing a 45 mph speed advisory on some state roads.

The governor gave an update Friday morning in Kingston at the Thruway Authority Maintenance Garage.

She says there haven’t been any major traffic incidents, though many homes are without power.

She says people should take the proper precautions if they do go out.

"You do not know if you’re making that one run to the store that you’re not going to end up in a ditch because of the icy roads. You want to make sure that you are protected," said Hochul. Get the sand or cat litter in the back of the car. You can put that under the tires. It works every time to pull yourself out."

"Also, just having the blankets, food, water in your vehicle during the wintertime that is the best thing, as well as that multipurpose scraper," she added.
