It won’t be long before signs of the season start popping up around Albany. Thursday and Friday, the state’s holiday trees begin their journey to the state capital.

The Empire State Plaza Tree is being donated by the Reese family in Waterford. That one will be cut down Thursday.

The East Capitol Park Tree is coming from the Heritage family in Clifton Park. That one comes down on Friday.

A free tree-lighting event complete with music, fireworks, and a visit from Santa takes place on Sunday, Dec. 5.

Then there is the Empire State Plaza ice rink. That opens to skaters at noon on Friday, Dec. 3.
