The New York attorney general wants to expand access to abortions in this state.

The legislation establishes a dedicated state program that would give financial resources to abortion providers.

The fund would direct $50 million to the Department of Health to offer grants to abortion providers.
Attorney General Tish James says if Roe v. Wade is overturned, 26 states are likely to ban abortions. She expects that will lead many people – tens of thousands more – to travel here to New York to get an abortion.

An estimated 9% of abortions performed in New York in 2019 were for people in other states.

James and the legislative sponsors say everyone should have the freedom to control their own body and health care.

Hear what she says is very worrisome to her if the ban were to pass by watching the video.
