In past summers, many students from the J-1 student work visa program have come to work in Lake George. Many of those students are from Ukraine.
Many of the restaurants employ students from Ukraine every summer, so many of the restaurant owners and managers have grown close to the students.
You may notice a bucket in area restaurants where you can donate money to them.
Over at 10 McGillis Public House, Jason Travis is the executive chef and the owner. He says Lake George would not survive over the summer if it was not for the J-1 students.
His restaurant has raised just over $2,000 for World Central Kitchen. That money will help Ukrainian refugees in Poland.
Travis says they are hoping to raise $10,000. He’s reached out to other restaurants for help.
Hear one of those restaurant managers explain why it was so important to get on board by watching the video of Jonathan Hunter’s story.
