State lawmakers missed the deadline for a new budget at midnight Thursday into Friday, as hot button issues slow negotiations at the Capitol.

This means state workers could be at risk of not getting paid if the budget is not passed by Monday afternoon.

Democratic Assemblyman John McDonald wasn’t too worried that the budget is late. He is confident that it will be passed. However, Republican Senator Jim Tedisco was not as optimistic.

McDonald says there are some key issues that they are trying to work on when it comes to policy. He says when it comes to bail reform, judges and the public have asked for greater clarity when it comes to certain items. McDonald says even though the budget is late, he says they are committed to having a good budget.

Senator Jim Tedisco says part of the problem is that Democrats do not know how to spend the proposed $220 billion in the budget. He blames his colleagues on the other side of the aisle for not doing their job.
