Latham teen back to collect hats for kids undergoing chemo

Thanksgiving is around the corner, and a local effort to collect hats called Hatsgiving has kicked off.

The organization was founded by Latham native Jeremy Wernick.

The hats benefit children undergoing chemotherapy treatments.

Wernick came up with the idea after participating in the annual St. Baldrick’s head shaving fundraiser.

Wernick says higher shipping costs are a concern for them this year.

"As much as the main goal is always going to be hats, we can’t really ship the hats if we don’t have the money to ship them," said Wernick.

The collection began Monday and runs through Nov. 19.
