A bill to improve ambulance service in rural areas of New York has passed both houses of the state Legislature.

Capital Region lawmakers Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara and Sen. Michelle Hinchey have been pushing for this bill.

The bill calls for a task force to study the challenges often facing rural emergency services and provide solutions for these vital services. Santabarbara and Hinchey hope the legislation will also address the shrinking pool of volunteer EMS candidates.
