Longtime cancer survivor discusses urgent need to get screened

Get screened. That’s the urgent message from the American Cancer Society as millions of people delayed cancer screenings during the height of the pandemic.

One survivor is sharing her story in hopes it motivates others to make their health a priority.

Thelma Suson remembers the moment she heard she had breast cancer. She says her concept was that cancer equals death. She remembers the moment her mindset changed.

It was at a Relay for Life fundraiser, where she met cancer survivors for the first time.

Now she’s grandmother who is 21-years cancer free, and organizing events to help others who are battling cancer.
