Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan says the Beaver Creek Clean River Project is the most environmentally beneficial project in the city in decades.

She gave an update on the project Thursday morning.

"This $55 million project will screen and disinfect more than $300 million gallons of sewer overflows annually from the Beaver Creek Sewer District, which is one of the largest contributors of overflows to the Hudson River in the entire Capital Region," said Sheehan. "We are ending a centuries-old source of pollution to the Hudson River."

Construction is scheduled to go until December 2022.
