New York’s Business Council is taking an unprecedented step: joining the call for a federal ban on assault weapons. They say mass shootings are bad for business.

Business Council leaders and chambers of commerce say violence committed with assault weapons is often against customers and employees.

The business leaders say the threat of violence is a big deterrent for getting people back to work, and back out spending money after the pandemic.

Leaders say they decided to step up and join this conversation for the first time, after the Buffalo supermarket shooting.
