Niskayuna neighbors worried about the safety of children on their streets held a community meeting Friday with the police chief and Town Board member Bill McPartlon.

People living on Story Avenue say there’s been too many crashes on this street, including one that happened earlier in the week.

They floated ideas on how to fix the problem such as adding yield lights, speed bumps, and prohibiting commercial vehicles from coming down their hill.

“We are really encouraged that people are here to try to help and find solutions. It’s just one of those things that time is of the essence because people are getting hurt, you know, people’s homes are getting hurt, people’s cars are getting hurt,” said neighbor Marlene McCleary.

Changes to Balltown Road, which is the road at the top of Story Avenue, would need state approval since it’s a state road.

Other changes will be discussed at the next public safety meeting in November.
