State lawmakers in New York will vote this week on a redistricting plan that favors Democrats.

New York’s congressional delegation is currently 19 Democratic seats to just eight for Republicans. The proposal would give Democrats 22 seats and Republicans four.

It would also shake up the state senate districts. The 51st would be drawn to force a primary between Republican Senator Jim Tedisco and Republican Senator Peter Oberacker, whose district covers Oneonta and Cortland.

New York recently lost a congressional seat because of slow growth detailed in the 2020 census.
