Primary elections underway in New York state

It’s primary Election Day in New York.

The polls opened at 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The turnout among early voters for the week leading up to the election was low.

Officials are hoping people get out to the polls.

NewsChannel 13 is watching several races, including the Democratic Primary for Albany Mayor.

Reverend Valerie Faust is challenging incumbent Kathy Sheehan.

The winner of the Democratic primary will face Republican Alicia Purdy and Independence Party candidate Greg Aidala in November.
The polls close at 9 p.m.
