Rhode Island teen’s backpack donation program helping kids in need

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. – As the new school year approaches, some kids might struggle when it comes to school supplies.

Willow Foregger, 13, of Rhode Island is changing that.

Right around the time when school was out for the Pennfield School in Portsmouth, while many kids were eager to kick back and relax, Willow had another idea.

She remembered the importance of a backpack for a brand new school year and how they can affect the way kids carry themselves.

She created a website and a GoFundMe raising money for her promising project Backpacks for a Cause.

After dozens of donations and some strategic summer planning, she has more than 101 colorful backpacks, filled with things needed for school.
