Some school districts, including Albany and North Colonie, are distributing at-home COVID tests to students.

If your school hasn’t done that, you may be wondering why?

Some of our viewers reached out to NewsChannel 13 asking that question.

We asked the State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, which helps distribute the kits.

They say the state gave out more than 6.1 million tests to public and charter school students across the state.

Private schools can ask for test kits from the state.

The agency says schools have several recommended options on what to do with the test kits. Some chose to hand them out. Some are using them to implement "Test to Stay" protocols to keep students in school.
