COLONIE – The South Colonie School District has a new classroom. However, it’s not at any of the district’s schools. You can find it at Colonie Center, and you may run into some students while shopping there.

A ribbon cutting for the new classroom that houses the Colonie Community Connection program was held on Tuesday morning.

The room itself, located in a former storefront, looks like your average classroom. It has a SMART board, cubbies and words of inspiration.

The district wanted to get students back into the community and into the workforce after the pandemic.

They use the classroom to work on communication, writing and other skills. Then they head into the mall to volunteer at stores, and maybe even land a job.
