The Schenectady City School District sent students at Mont Pleasant Middle School home early on Friday after 17 teachers called out sick.
A spokesperson for the district says seven teachers called out Thursday and 10 more called out Friday morning. The school district did not have enough substitute teachers to cover all the staff absences.

The district says this is not COVID-related.
Around 11:30 Friday morning, students got on the school buses and parents came to pick up their kids.
