The FDA safety committee rejected a third dose of the Pfizer vaccine for most adults.
But, in an unexpected second vote they did authorize use for people 65 and older, and for people who are at high risk of contracting severe covid-19.
Clinical research from Israel is at the core of the decision.
It shows vaccine protection from infection does fall off after 6 months.

The committee also agreed a third dose could still be used under "emergency use authorization".
