Family, friends, and leaders in Troy came out this morning to remember a child taken too soon by gun violence. A tree was planted at the Old Sixth Avenue Park in memory of 11-year-old Ayshawn Davis.

The boy was hit by gunfire on that street in September 2020.

There is a plaque on the fence by the tree to commemorate his life.

Family members struggle to make sense of the tragedy

“It’s just so sad that we have to see our kids go like this. They can’t live a full life. It’s hard. Got to take it one day at a time. Together we can take our community back for our kids,” said Ayshawn’s mother, Latoya Alston.

Mayor Patrick Madden, City Council President Carmella Mantello, and businessman Steven Bouchey were part of Monday’s ceremony.
