Victim in Saratoga Springs weekend assault dies

What began as an assault investigation in Saratoga Springs now appears to be a homicide, as the victim in a Saturday night attack has passed away.
The family of Mark French announced his passing Monday on social media. Police say he was hit on the back of the head Saturday night while trying to break up a fight at around 11 p.m. outside Clancy’s Tavern on Caroline Street.
Two brothers, Jordan and James Garafalo, who were charged with assault, are now likely to face more serious charges.
French, who was 56 and a retired corrections officer, was a well-liked member of the Saratoga Springs community.
